Oil field - Middle East

Measured ground subsidence in a Middle East field
between 2004-2007, arising from oil extraction
The figure shows a temporal vertical displacement map of a cross-section through an active oil field (left image). The map in the top right shows the location of the cross-section with respect to the overall oil field deformation. Gradient analysis of the vertical ground deformation clearly identified areas of increased movement. A comparison between PSInSAR™ vertical displacement gradient and known faults shows a high correlation between the two data sets. Vertical displacement gradients are obtained by spatially averaging PS vertical displacements.
